Minecraft at RAMM (2017)

Minecraft at RAMM is a project I developed as part of my PhD research which allows players to explore the historic city of Exeter with Microsoft’s Minecraft.

These maps allow players to discover what life was like in Roman, Tudor and 18th century Exeter with Minecraft. Players can even get inside a museum object - 18th Century Exeter is based on the Hedgeland model in the Making History gallery of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery in Exeter, and includes the object’s case. The Hogenburg map of Exeter lets players see Exeter as Tudor map makers did. The two versions of Roman Exeter are based on the city’s rich archaeological record.

This project was a partnership between me, the digital team at RAMM, Adam Clarke and Victoria Bennet from The Common People, James Delaney from Blockworks and Johann Kruger (Dragnoz).
